The Trades
Interest and Temperment: Painters, Wallcoverers and Drywall Finishers must have manual dexterity as well as steady nerves to work in high places. They should not be allergic to paint fumes, toxic materials or spray dust. An artistic sense, good eyesight and sense of color are necessary to do a first class job.
Recommended High School Courses: General Math, General Science, Mechanical Drawing and Chemistry will help
Terms of Apprenticeship: 4 Years of on the job training, related classroom instruction, classes a minimum of 160 hours per year.
Location: The Painter, Wallcover and Drywall Finisher apprenticeship program is only offered at the Drums and Harrisburg training centers. The counties that these training centers serve are as follows: Adams, Bradford, Berks, Carbon, Clinton, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Wayne, Wyoming and York.
